I will always remember Sam as a generous and gentle friend. From our early days in the Foreign Service in A-100 through our time working on Canadian affairs, Sam was always willing to share his knowledge, sound advice, and optimism. I especially will miss Sam's joy in sharing his love of his family. My last and best memory of Sam is a wonderful family dinner with Odile, his children and his grandchildren in Ottawa during my last visit to the Embassy.
